John 9 1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.
What is interesting is that this doesn’t say he went looking for this guy. He just ‘happened’ upon him. But when asked about him, Jesus knows exactly who he is and WHY HE IS BLIND! Holy eye cream, Batman! I am still doing a double take on this one. It leads to more questions about the kind of man Jesus was.
- Did he really not know this momentus situation was just around the corner (or up the street)?
- What if the disciples HADN’T asked about him? (I don’t usually like that type of question as it is completely unanswerable, but still….)
- Did Jesus, a God/Man, hear from the Father every moment, before hand or just as he needed for that moment?
I have to think about that last one. Especially in the light of journaling, hearing from God everyday… Jesus often got away to be alone and pray. I used to think he just had this massive God Pipeline (invisible, or course) and he may have. But it just seems from this verse that he depended on hearing from God at the time he needs it. I want to walk like that. Expecting to hear from God “as I go along”
Jesus, help me to wait to hear from you as well as to hear from you as I go!
