Journaling Day 14

John 14: 1

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[a]; trust also in me. 2In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going.”

tracks 5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

This is painful but encouraging. I come from a pretty smart and strong willed family, and being the 2nd youngest I got shot down alot…a LOT.  I also tend to be a peacemaker, confrontation isn’t my first choice.  I would rather just listen for a while, watch what happens and see if I can’t pick it up, rather than actually ASKING a question.  Don’t get me wrong. I have learned to ask questions, but my default is to hang loose and see what shakes down.  So as Phillip asks this question, basically telling Jesus he is wrong, I wince.  Literally.  ouch.  I don’t want to be THAT person.  But Jesus doesn’t ridicule, doesn’t roll his eyes.  He answers – “I am the way….”  I like Jesus.

Jesus, thank you for your patience.  Thank you that life is not a competition. It’s not about who knows more faster.  It’s about loving you.  Relationship with you.  Peace and faith in your love for me.  Whether I ‘get it’ or not.  I love you Jesus.
