I love hanging out with my Mom. Especially around dinner time! She is so knowledgable when it comes to cooking. She puts things together that you would never think of! (and sometimes SHOULD never think of!) She understands the food groups, what nutrients come from where and what they are basically good for. She knows how to compliment one dish with another. My mouth is watering thinking about it.
She knows how to feed herself…and others, for that matter. Sometimes when I compliment her, she starts talking in “recipe talk”. Like many languages, I don’t speak ‘recipe’. I can read a little, though. She wrote me the recipe for this KILLER Rhubarb Pie, and everyone loved it!
Even when we go out to eat, she can tell you what ingredients are in a dish and perhaps how she would recreate it, or improve upon it. It’s just amazing.
It’s cool that God uses food analogies in the Bible, too! Bread of life, Manna from Heaven, milk vs solid food, etc… So there are some nuggets of wisdom I pick up from putting these things together.
- Hang out with your mom.
- Eat food.
- Hang out with people who know the Bible, like a recipe, you may not ‘speak’ it yet, but you can learn.
- If you ‘speak’ Bible and hang out with people who don’t, try speaking their language for a bit…
- Like my mom, practice the good stuff you taste. Don’t just go to the restaurant… try making stuff at home!
- Food and Jesus are best when shared!
“Broccoli” verses (good to hear, not fun to hear):
Rev 3:15 I have knowledge of your works, that you are not cold or warm: it would be better if you were cold or warm. 16 So because you are not one thing or the other, I will have no more to do with you.
1Co 5:6 This pride of yours is not good. Do you not see that a little leaven makes a change in all the mass?
Rom 7:24 How unhappy am I! who will make me free from the body of this death?
“Chocolate Cake” verses (yummmmmy!):
Rom 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.
Phi 3:20 But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.
Eat up! Bon Apetit! Manga! Syo nyt! At nu!
